Hughes Company, Inc. team!Position DescriptionThe Accounting Specialist is primarily responsible for providing financial, administrative, and clerical support to the organization. This is a key position that will have a daily, ongoing impact in helping manage cash flow and controlling expenses in accordance with financial policies and procedures to drive the business forward. The successful Accounting Specialist must be able to multi-task, while instinctively readjusting efforts to focus on high-priority tasks. This position is highly customer service oriented and requires excellent communication skills to work with customers and collaborate with internal teams and external partners. This role is expected to adhere to all company policies and safety protocols.Key Competencies Required to be Successful as an Accounting SpecialistPerform daily cash analysis accounts payables transactions to ensure R.S. Hughes financials run smoothlyManage and reconcile the subsidiary ledgers to ensure balances are accurately reflected in the general ledger; analyze data and reclassify journal entries as needed within the General Ledger and coordinates necessary corrections in the subsidiary ledgerValidate financial balance sheet accounts and bank reconciliations for accuracy to ensure all documentation corresponds correctlyManage and verify all expense reports, ensuring all receipts are received and correct payments are processed in accordance with company policiesCarry out month-end close process by following internal procedures and protocols; including but not limited to accruals, journal entries, settling suspense and clearing accountsManage corporate credit cards and reconciliation process in accordance with the Companys spending policy; make payment on credit accountsPrepare personal property tax returns, business licenses, census, annual reports etc.Manage the preparation, issuance, and reporting of W-9s, 1099s, and other Annual Government FormsMonitor tax liabilities and requirements: ensure income, payroll, and other tax liabilities are paid timely in compliance with federal, state, and local government agency requirementsOversee the fixed asset system for accounting, processing, and recording of assets (tangible and intangible)Acts as back-up for Payroll teamPerform other related duties as assignedEducation/Certification/LicensesBachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline (Required)Three to five years of accounting experience (Required)Skills That Will Make You SuccessfulExtensive knowledge of general financial accountingUnderstanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principlesHighly proficient with accounting softwareExcellent organizational skills and attention to detailAbility to work under pressure and meet deadlines without direct supervisionSolid time managementAbility to multi-task, while instinctively readjusting efforts to focus on high-priority tasksExcellent written and verbal communication skillsProficient in Microsoft Office Suite and especially Microsoft ExcelApplicants for all job openings will be considered without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age (40 and over), sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, medical condition, genetic information, marital status, gender identity, gender expression, military or veteran status or any other basis protected by state, federal or local law.
