ABOUT AJ OPERATIONS

An extension of AJ Capital Partners (“AJCP”) founded in 2008, Adventurous Journeys Operations (“AJ Operations”) is the in-house management company for AJCP’s hospitality, office, residential, entertainment, and retail assets. By leveraging resources across the company, AJ Operations expands upon AJCP’s vertically integrated development approach and is responsible for driving operating performance and guest experience through the alignment of branding, real estate, and property operations. Projects managed by AJ Operations include Chief’s, an entertainment venue in partnership with Eric Church on Broadway in Nashville, Memoir Residential, a multifamily platform initially launching in Nashville, Portland, and New Orleans, and Hotel 1928 in Waco, TX in partnership with Magnolia by Chip and Joanna Gaines, as well as many other exciting commercial, retail, hospitality, and F&B ventures. AJ Operations will also manage 500,000 square feet of office space and 250,000 square feet of retail upon completion of AJCP’s mixed-use project in Wedgewood-Houston Nashville.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Director, Accounting will be responsible for building and leading a team of accountants, overseeing day-to-day accounting processes and the accurate and timely reporting of financial information for hospitality, office, residential, entertainment, and retail assets. The Director, Accounting will also create effective business processes and implement systems that can scale as AJ Operations and its managed properties continue to grow.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Lead the property-level accounting function and monthly closing process for AJ Operations, with emphasis on hospitality and entertainment assets.

Participate in the design and implementation (D&I) of a financial control framework and standard operating procedures for AJ Operations.

Ensure property financials and all other financial data and reporting packages are thoroughly reviewed and any incomplete items or reconciling items are addressed timely.

Analyze and ensure accuracy of invoice coding and payment and new vendor setup.

Review and provide feedback on portfolio and individual property contracts.

Oversee monthly balance sheet reconciliations.

Assist with physical banking and general cash management.

Work with property, asset, and portfolio management teams to onboard new investments into existing processes and coordinate multiple phases of development as properties are built or undergo renovation.

Collaborate across teams on implementation of IT infrastructure and systems. D&I of new controls, processes and systems will be frequent as a result of new properties opening and new business initiatives.

Assist with year-end audit and provide requested information to AJCP accountants and auditors.

Support AJCP capital deployment strategy, including facilitating capital expenditures and approvals.

Track all State or County Licensee, Certification, or business tax requirements and manage recertification and training processes.

Document and manage business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.

Perform any additional responsibilities that maybe required to support AJ Operations’ rapid growth.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in leading accounting teams across multiple locations. This person will have experience creating and driving processes to maintain internal controls. This role also requires the following capabilities:

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

Required

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.

8-10 years of progressive accounting experience in the hospitality industry.

Experience managing budgets and teams, establishing working goals and objectives, and a demonstrated history of excellent decision-making skills.

Multi-concept, multi-state experience.

Advanced Excel and Sage Intacct ERP experience.

Ability to travel up to 20%.

Preferred

Experience with a broad base of asset classes, including hospitality, multifamily, office, retail, and entertainment.

Experience with disparate systems, e.g. POS (Toast), PMS (Infor), reservations/ticketing systems (Resy, Tripleseat, TixR), etc.

Experience in GAAP financial reporting dealing with a high volume of transactions.

Experience selecting and managing third-party/outsourced accounting providers.

Experience selecting systems leading implementations.

CPA license.
