POSITION TITLE: Accounting Clerk

REPORTS TO (TITLE): Accounting Manager

Job Summary:

Under direct supervision of the Accounting Manager, the Accounting Clerk is responsible for Cash Deposits and providing backup support for Accounts Payable process.

Hourly Range: $21.25-25.96 DOE

Full time position in the office

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receives mailed payments daily; codes and inputs payments including checks and electronic payments; makes daily deposits.
  • Maintains Cash deposit files.
  • Enters Bank transactions and transfers as necessary.
  • Uploads EFT files to Exchange Bank weekly.
  • Helps with card expense report monthly distribution; posts credit card expenses.
  • Updates and maintains files pertaining to donations and sends monthly reporting to Admin staff.
  • Researches cash deposit questions and issues.
  • Calculates and pays Internet sales taxes.
  • Assists with preparation for organization’s annual audit.
  • Assists with various accounting projects as they arise.
  • Provides backup support for Accounts Payable.
  • Participates in ongoing training.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Minimum AA degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Two to three years related accounting experience or nonprofit accounting experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of GAAP and accrual based accounting as applicable to a nonprofit.
  • Understanding of the revenue and accounts payable cycles, including processing and reconciliation.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, and Great Plains or equivalent accounting software.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving, follow through, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Strong work ethic, detail-oriented, accurate, able to work collaboratively and cross-train in all hands-on areas of the accounting process.
  • Sensitivity to and willingness to interact with persons of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize projects, work relatively independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work with people with a variety of background and educational levels.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good judgment and decision-making skills.
