Department Function
The Supply Chain function is responsible for all national Group Procurement contracts. This involves establishing a high-performing supplier base, improving material availability through better forecasting, risk management, and managing costs whilst ensuring quality requirements are met. Managing procurement centrally means that Taylor Wimpey's buying power is optimised to deliver optimal value and Taylor Wimpey are regarded by suppliers as a strategic customer of choice.
The team also work closely with cross-functional colleagues to drive innovation and standardisation across our procured products. This includes working collaboratively with a standard process for trialing products and processes and avoiding duplication of effort for the regions. Supply Chain also includes TW Logistics and the delivery of pre-kitted build packs to site, to improve production efficiency, control costs and improve security of supply.
Job summary/Purpose
To be responsible for managing specific categories to deliver a highly professional and strategic Procurement service at Taylor Wimpey UK Limited for a number of Group managed categories. Working closely with, and supporting, the Procurement Director in delivering the Procurement and wider supply chain objectives, which include governance and functional support to the commercial teams.
Primary Responsibilities
Procurement
- Accountable and responsible for ensuring that the assigned procurement category delivers a professional, commercial and strategic service.
- Responsible for ensuring that expert advice is given to Senior Management teams to ensure that Taylor Wimpey is achieving best value through all of its procurement activities and is complying with relevant laws and regulations for the assigned procurement category.
- Managing and developing relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, driving continual innovation and quality improvement throughout Procurement
- To initiate and lead strategic Procurement projects
- Working with the Procurement and Supply Chain Director to support research and development initiatives
- To assess both strategic and long term risks in Procurement and implement appropriate mitigation strategies as and when required
- To support the Procurement Director in working closely with suppliers and Regional Business Units to recognise and deliver year on year business benefits
- To provide regular reports to the Procurement Director as requested on Procurement matters for their categories
- Maintain a comprehensive and up to date knowledge of all relevant legislation, procedures and best practise for Procurement
- To support Taylor Wimpey’s Health and Safety and Customer Service objectives through the procurement process
Management
- To line manage Category Managers as required by the Procurement Director, to ensure that they build long-term relationships and seek innovative and cost effective solutions to meet the required targets and objectives
Experience, Qualifications, Technical Requirements
- Possess commercial procurement experience within the House Building, Construction or Manufacturing sector.
- Possess highly developed negotiation skills
- Demonstrable stakeholder management skills
- Experienced in leading and managing teams
- Excellent category management skills
- IT literacy inc MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint
