Job Description:
A prestigious global law firm is seeking a skilled and motivated Tax Lawyer with a strong interest in renewable energy and the energy transition to join its Project Finance team. The role offers the opportunity to support senior associates and partners who work with project developers, lenders, and investors on cutting-edge renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, geothermal, battery storage, carbon capture, renewable natural gas, green hydrogen, and electric transmission. This is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to complex federal tax law developments while working closely with leading experts in the field.
Location
Duties
- Support the Project Finance team in providing tax advice on renewable energy projects.
- Assist in structuring tax-efficient transactions related to energy projects, including tax credits, financing arrangements, and joint ventures.
- Work closely with senior associates and partners on various aspects of tax law, including federal tax incentives, tax equity, partnership taxation, and other key areas of the energy transition.
- Draft and review tax-related documents, including legal opinions, memoranda, and agreements.
- Collaborate with clients, including project developers, lenders, and investors, to ensure optimal tax strategies for renewable energy and energy transition projects.
- Stay updated on developments in federal tax law, particularly as it pertains to renewable energy incentives and the Inflation Reduction Act.
Requirements
- 2-3 years of experience as a tax lawyer, preferably with a focus on renewable energy and project finance.
- Familiarity with renewable energy incentives, such as tax credits under the Inflation Reduction Act.
- Experience in partnership taxation is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical and communication skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Education
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- LLM in Taxation is preferred but not required.
Certifications
- Admitted to the bar in the relevant jurisdiction (e.g., Washington, D.C., New York, or other applicable jurisdiction).
Skills
- Deep understanding of federal tax law, particularly as it relates to renewable energy and project finance.
- Strong drafting and analytical skills.
- Ability to communicate complex tax issues clearly to both legal and non-legal stakeholders.
